While listening to classic dancehall-reggae beats some years ago, Sly Dunbar said he was struck by how uncomplicated many of those jams are. He and longtime music partner Robbie Shakespeare wanted to revisit the formula that made them timeless.<\/p>\n
The result is \u2018Zoom Dancehall\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, a 13-song compilation album they produced for Taxi Records and One Pop Music. Released in October, it hears The Riddim Twins collaborating with a number of artists including Anthony Redrose, Hopeton Lindo, Hawkeye, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Bryan Art and Ambelique.<\/p>\n \u201cWi jus\u2019 wanted to come up with something simple, like di \u2018Sleng Teng\u2019<\/em><\/strong> an\u2019 \u2018Murder She Wrote\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. People love dat kinda sound,\u201d said Dunbar.<\/p>\n Released in 1984, the \u2018Sleng Teng\u2019<\/em><\/strong> was a sensation with its computerized beat. Produced by Lloyd \u201cKing Jammy\u201d James, it spawned countless hit singles including the title song by Wayne Smith, \u2018Pumpkin Belly\u2019<\/em><\/strong> by Tenor Saw, and \u2018Buddy Bye\u2019<\/em><\/strong> by Johnny Osbourne.<\/p>\n \u2018Murder She Wrote\u2019<\/em><\/strong> by Chaka Demus and Pliers came out in 1992. Produced by The Taxi Gang, it entered the British national chart two years later and was recently certified platinum in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n \u2018Zoom Dancehall\u2019<\/em><\/strong> was released three years after Shakespeare\u2019s death at age 68.
