One of his favorite \u2018D. Brown\u2019 tracks is <strong><em>\u2018How Could I Leave\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, which was released in 1977.<\/p>\n<p>Coleman, a guitarist who has recorded and toured with Grammy winners Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers and Stephen Marley, has covered <strong><em>\u2018How Could I Leave\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. His self-produced version was released on August 30.<\/p>\n<p>While it is a dance track, Coleman said <strong><em>\u2018How Could I Leave\u2019<\/em><\/strong> carries a powerful message. He has always been moved by a particular line in the song.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe part that says, \u2018it was ordained that man should leave his mother and cleave to the woman that he loves\u2019,\u201d he disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Coleman also sings and plays percussion on the song. He is backed by drummer Squiddly Cole, another member of Stephen Marley\u2019s band, bassist Devon Bradshaw of Burning Spear and Garnet Silk fame and keyboardist Chadian Monroe.<\/p>\n<p>Although Brown made it famous, <strong><em>\u2018How Could I Leave\u2019<\/em><\/strong> was initially recorded as <strong><em>\u2018How Could I Live\u2019<\/em><\/strong> in 1968 by The Sharks. That band\u2019s guitarist, Dwight Pinkney, wrote the song which was first done for Studio One.<\/p>\n<p>Nine years later, Brown cut his version for producer Joe Gibbs who had the hottest label in Jamaica at the time. <strong><em>\u2018How Could I Leave\u2019<\/em><\/strong> quickly went to number one in Jamaica and on reggae charts in the United States and United Kingdom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like many Jamaican artists and musicians, Ian \u201cBeezy\u201d Coleman is a big fan of Dennis Brown, arguably the greatest hitmaker in the annals of reggae.
