Lieutenant Stitchie had been facing some health challenges after collapsing on stage last year.\u00a0 He has had an illustrious Dancehall career. In 1987, he recorded his first album,\u00a0\u2018Wear Yuh Size\u2019<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0for King Jammys, which the producer also named\u00a0\u2018Great Ambition\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0for the overseas market.<\/p>\nHe was also signed to Atlantic Records, where he recorded three albums, namely\u00a0\u2018The Governor\u2019<\/em><\/strong> in 1989,\u00a0\u2018Wild\u00a0Jamaican Romances\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in 1991 and\u00a0\u2018Rude Boy\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in 1993, all of which copped the Album of The Year award in Jamaica. \u00a0\u00a0At the time, he was also featured on LL Cool J\u2019s 1993\u00a0Gold Album 14 Shots to the Dome<\/em>\u00a0on a track titled\u00a0\u2018Straight from Queens\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\nIn 1993, after his stint at Atlantic ended, Stitchie recorded\u00a0\u2018Bun It Down\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0for producer Patrick Roberts of Shocking Vibes. The single topped the local music charts and was later followed by a slew of number-one songs. In one calendar year, Stitchie even ended up with 14 number one songs.<\/p>\nAlthough Stitchie\u2019s discography is\u00a0extensive, his most memorable track is the hit\u00a0\u2018Wear Yuh Size\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, about a fictional love interest who forced her feet into a tiny pair of shoes and embarrassed\u00a0herself in public. \u2018Romance\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, \u2018Natty Dread\u2019<\/strong>, \u2018Hot Like the Sun\u2019<\/strong>, \u2018Broad Hips\u2019<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0and\u00a0\u2018Woman Fe Get Lyrics\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0are among his other big hits.<\/p>\nIn his secular years, he worked with many of Jamaica\u2019s best producers, including Bobby Digital, Danny Browne, Donovan Germaine, riddim twins Sly and Robbie, and Steelie and Cleevie.<\/p>\n
His first album in the gospel reggae style,\u00a0\u2018To God Be the Glory\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, was released in 1999. He followed with further albums in a similar style.<\/p>\nIn 2002, he won the \u2018Outstanding Male Reggae Vocal Performance of the Year\u2019 award at the\u00a0Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards.<\/p>\n
In 2012, Stitchie was awarded an honorary doctorate from the\u00a0Cornerstone Christian University\u00a0in Orlando, Florida, in recognition of his contribution to Gospel Reggae.<\/p>\n
