Heralded singer and performer Jah’Mila have released her highly anticipated new album, \u201cWoman of the Sun\u201d\u2014<\/em><\/strong>a vibrant celebration of new beginnings and growth. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Jah’Mila has established herself as a prominent force in the reggae genre. With \u201cWoman of the Sun\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, she broadens her musical palette, showcasing her versatility as both a singer and songwriter. The album, produced by Ben Barton Creelman, follows her JUNO-nominated debut, \u201cRoots Girl\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, and presents a meticulously crafted soundscape. It melds reggae\u2019s storied traditions with soul melodies, polished pop elements, and Jah’Mila’s signature honeyed vocals. Jah’Mila\u2019s father, Earl “Chinna” Smith, wrote \u201cWe Got Love\u201d<\/em><\/strong> and plays guitar on several tracks. The song offers a timeless reflection on familial struggles worldwide. These significant contributions were recorded at Jamaica’s Tuff Gong Studios, a historic hub for Caribbean and international musicians.<\/p>\n

\u201cEast Coast Anthem\u201d<\/em><\/strong> features Mi’kmaq rapper Wolf Castle, Nova Scotia R&B star Aquakultre, and a captivating fiddle outro by Wendy MacIsaac. The track pays homage to the reggae classic \u201cBam Bam\u201d<\/em><\/strong>,” famously interpreted by Sister Nancy. Another standout, \u201cBad Habit\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, is a poppy, radio-ready tune featuring Caribbean-Canadian rapper Kayo, string players from Symphony Nova Scotia, a West Coast funk bassist, and backup vocals by the acclaimed Smith Sisters\u2014Reeny, Hailey, and Micah.<\/p>\n

The reflective \u201cWalk Alone\u201d<\/em><\/strong> includes contributions from its co-writer, David Myles, on trumpet and guitar. Throughout the album, Jah’Mila’s deep connection to reggae remains at the forefront, even as she explores new musical territories.<\/p>\n
