Empress Divine has been a prominent figure in the Canadian reggae music scene for over a decade. She began her journey as a sound system selector (DJ) before transitioning into the exceptional vocalist she is today. Born and raised in Toronto, Empress Divine grew up surrounded by music. After her mother passed away when she was just eight years old, she turned to music as a source of comfort and healing. By her teenage years, she was actively involved in church choirs, school assemblies, and talent shows, eventually becoming a mobile DJ at local parties and clubs.<\/p>\n
Her love for Reggae, Rub-a-Dub, R&B, and Dancehall music fuels her songwriting, which deeply resonates with her listeners. Although DJing kept her busy, her true passion was singing. In 2009, she launched her solo career with the release of her first single, \u2018Jah Lives\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, a reggae rendition of Jazmine Sullivan’s \u2018Need U Bad\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Empress Divine quickly gained recognition in the reggae community. Her single \u2018Stop the Violence aka Brap Brap\u2019<\/em><\/strong> received heavy rotation on Rebel Vibes\u2019 top 10 countdown on 105.5 Vibe FM with Carrie Mullings. In 2011, she won the Irie Music Award for Best New Artist, and in 2012, she received the Reggae Xclusive Recognition Spotlight Award for Best Female Singjay\/Deejay.<\/p>\n Throughout the years, Empress Divine has collaborated with producer Konsequence Musik, releasing several successful singles. These include \u2018Natty Haffi Grow\u2019<\/em><\/strong> on the \u2018Tropical House Riddim\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, \u2018MAMA\u2019<\/em><\/strong> on the \u2018To Be Great Riddim pt. 2\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, and \u2018Sweet Jamaica\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. She also released a heartfelt music video for \u2018MAMA\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, paying tribute to her late mother Annette. Another notable single, \u2018Real Friends\u2019<\/em><\/strong> on the \u2018Up Like Seven Riddim\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, produced by Stubborn Gad Productions, received significant attention and rave reviews.<\/p>\n In her most recent venture, Empress Divine teamed up with fellow Toronto-based artist and producer Black Orchid to release \u2018Single Girls Blues\u2019 <\/em><\/strong>on August 19, 2022. The official music video followed on February 8, 2023, on YouTube Vevo.
