A turning point in singjay Jimi D\u2019s life took place during the 1990s when he was living in Brooklyn, New York. He and a friend were smoking a spliff (marijuana cigarette) when both became dis-oriented.<\/p>\n
It was not until some years later, that he realized that the joint was contaminated. Jimi D recovered, but his friend did not. The episode inspired him to write and record uplifting songs like \u2018Praises\u2019, his latest release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe kinda music I started to make was more spiritual around them time deh,\u201d he recalled.\u00a0 Released in late 2023, \u2018Praises is co-produced by Hard Doe Entertainment LLC, Just Time Records and C&E Entertainment. It is the follow-up to \u2018Struggla\u2019 which was also a joint effort between Hard Doe Entertainment LLC and C&E Entertainment.<\/p>\n
Over the years, Jimi D has recorded a number of songs and one album (\u2018Multiple Personality Disorder\u2019, released in 2010) while holding a full-time job as a paramedic in Atlanta. He has also toured as a backup singer for stalwart roots singer, Don Carlos, his uncle.<\/p>\n
\u201cMusically, I didn\u2019t realize until I was a teenager that all the conversations we had about music was his way of checking my interests in music. He would always ask me to sing whenever he came off tour and stuff. When I became a teenager that\u2019s when he started to push me more in that direction,\u201d Jimi D related.<\/p>\n
He completed \u2018Praises\u2019 shortly after listening to the rhythm track. \u201cThe inspiration for \u2018Praises\u2019 came from the mindset I was in when I heard the beat. Don\u2019t get me wrong, I\u2019m always in gratitude, that\u2019s my first kinda of mindset with life. I\u2019m a very spiritual person.
