{"id":750,"date":"2021-03-11T17:12:03","date_gmt":"2021-03-11T17:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=750"},"modified":"2021-03-16T23:27:47","modified_gmt":"2021-03-16T23:27:47","slug":"ammoyes-the-light-and-water-musical-therapy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=750","title":{"rendered":"Ammoye&#8217;s &#8216;The Light&#8217; and &#8216;Water&#8217; Musical Therapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you don\u2019t want to tap your feet or move your waist &#8211; don\u2019t listen to her music.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want to hear sweet infectious vocals &#8211; tune her out.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re not a fan of enlightening lyrics laced with contagious beats \u2013 well \u2026 we can\u2019t help ya!<\/p>\n<p>Ammoye\u2019s music is all of the above and more.<\/p>\n<p>For Ammoye<em>, The Light<\/em>, her last album, was her \u201cawakening and personal\u00a0intimate discovery &amp; remembrance\u00a0of her higher self &#8211; The Light within\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Now with her next album,<em> Water<\/em><strong>,<\/strong> set to be released this summer, we got the chance to speak with Ammoye about her upcoming album, her music, her career and reggae music in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>She described her upcoming album <em>Water<\/em> as \u201ca song- autobiography of my Spirituality and mental evolution\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0She wants us to know it\u2019s a work that captures her views of what she is feeling and experiencing within and also the expressions of what she sees the outer world portraying to her from her perspective and \u201cinnerstanding\u201d. \u201cMy intent with<em> Water<\/em> (the album) is\u00a0to bring awareness, inspire, uplift and motivate the listener in the most positive ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This 5-time Juno Award Nominee has been around long enough to witness and be a part of the revolution and growth of reggae music in Canada. And when asked to compare the reggae\/dancehall\u00a0music industry back when she first started, to now, she lauds the fact that there are many more females on the scene now than then. \u201cThe balance is levelling out\u201d. She\u2019s also grateful for how much more popular Reggae is getting across the world, and that she was there to witness in 2019 a great accomplishment for Canadian Reggae when Mayor John Tory declared March 2nd as the official Titans of Reggae Day.\u00a0Ammoye claims, \u201cReggae music is the future. I strongly believe that. This\u00a0movement &amp; momentum\u00a0can\u2019t be stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-885 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG-20210228-WA0016-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG-20210228-WA0016-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG-20210228-WA0016-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG-20210228-WA0016-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG-20210228-WA0016.jpg 510w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In an industry where Artists and audience tend to compare the works of and each Performer, Ammoye refuses to be drawn into the sometimes negative conversation insisting that every artist \u201cbrings to the table something unique &amp; different. We all do. What we carry&#8230;the\u00a0unique attributes gifts\u00a0&amp; talents should be celebrated. I have never compared myself to anybody,\u00a0instead I choose to learn, observe &amp;\u00a0get inspired by the\u00a0ones I resonate with.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t ever wanna compete or compare. I wanna collaborate and keep reggae rocking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now rooted in Canada, and a proclaimed proud Canadian\/Jamaican, Ammoye has benefited from the support of entities such as Factor Canada, Toronto Arts Council and, the Ontario Arts Council just to name a few. Especially as an independent artist such support is tremendous. \u201cI am\u00a0thankful and grateful to be a Canadian artist. Being here has given me the opportunities to grow\u00a0and develop at my own pace, and it\u2019s\u00a0afforded me relationships that would probably be much harder to acquire if I were living in other countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But even then, with that kind of support, how does an Artist cope in a COVID-19 environment? In a world where everyone is supposed to \u201ctan ah yu yaad\u201d? How has it affected her art? \u201cSpiritually\u201d, is her simple reply. But she also explains it by saying, \u201cI\u2019ve gained more time with Spirit, more quality time to spend with myself\u2026 It took away the distractions and\u00a0the noise. \u2026 A lot of healing &amp; clearing\u00a0happened and is still happening for\u00a0me. I also got to spend a lot\u00a0more time with my family and my love.\u201d It\u2019s also afforded her a lot more moments in her beloved nature. And \u201cthe freedom and time to see a lot more clearer the gift that we as humanity have been given by this reset on a\u00a0conscious level.\u201d By the way, she gives the Pandemic credit for the opportunity to create and manifest her\u00a0new album <em>Water<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what\u2019s next for Ammoye, COVID-19 or not?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore adventure!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore expansion!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore awareness &#8211; higher consciousness awareness!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore learning!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore\u00a0growth!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWater<\/em> will be\u00a0flowing around the world <em>(pun intended, I\u2019m sure)<\/em> helping to heal through music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll be here Ammoye.
