{"id":7050,"date":"2023-10-27T05:43:24","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T05:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=7050"},"modified":"2023-11-01T00:55:12","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T00:55:12","slug":"we-are-more-than-ready-attorney-bert-samuels-says-ahead-of-vybz-kartels-valentines-day-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=7050","title":{"rendered":"\u201cWe Are More Than Ready,\u201d Attorney Bert Samuels Says Ahead of Vybz Kartel\u2019s Valentine\u2019s Day Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dancehall fans mounted fresh concerns over the health of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dancehallmag.com\/artists\/vybz-kartel\">Vybz Kartel<\/a>\u00a0as it emerged that his attorneys had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dancehallmag.com\/2023\/10\/25\/news\/vybz-kartels-privy-council-appeal-hearing-moved-up-to-february-2024.html\">won an expedited appeal<\/a>\u00a0hearing for the incarcerated Dancehall artist and three other men.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing will take place in the United Kingdom-based Privy Council\u2014Jamaica\u2019s final appellate court\u2014between February 14 and 15, 2024.\u00a0 Kartel is one of four men currently serving life sentences for the 2011 murder of Clive \u2018Lizard\u2019 Williams.\u00a0 \u201cKartel\u2019s health condition has not lessened any,\u201d Isat Buchanan said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, attorneys revealed that Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, suffers from Graves\u2019 disease and two heart conditions. His medical conditions were allegedly exacerbated by a 23-hour prison lockdown placed on the deejay following the recent discovery of cellphones within his cell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKartel\u2019s condition has not been contained or regularised, he is ill,\u201d Buchanan admitted, saying that the new dates came as a result of Kartel\u2019s health concerns, which were made public just a few months ago.<\/p>\n<p>The Crown reportedly vigorously opposed the expedition application on Kartel\u2019s medical condition and may have been surprised at the timing of the expedited hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Back in July, Bert Samuels, the attorney for Shawn \u2018Shawn Storm\u2019 Campbell,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dancehallmag.com\/2023\/07\/11\/news\/vybz-kartels-privy-council-appeal-tentative-date-set-for-april-2024.html\">had announced<\/a>\u00a0that the UK court had set tentative dates of April 16 through 18 in 2024 to hear the main arguments in the quartet\u2019s appeal.\u00a0 \u201cWe are more than ready to proceed on February 14,\u201d attorney-at-law Bert Samuels said.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThe team of attorneys for the four appellants are more than ready. The matter has been set for two days, we must be ready, the accused has been in custody for over 12 years, and therefore we have no choice but to be happy about the fact that the expedition request has been granted, the matter has been moved two months forward.
