For 40 years, Paul Kastick has held the drummer\u2019s seat in bands for famous acts including Maxi Priest and Big Mountain. On his latest projects, he steps out front as a vocalist.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kastick sings on <\/span>\u2018Night by Night\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, a song he co-produced with longtime collaborator, American guitarist Rudy Valentino. It is a reggae-rock cover of jazz-rock band Steely Dan\u2019s 1974 song.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Their version was released on August 25 by Kastick\u2019s GrooveGaloreMuzik and Valentino\u2019s Valentino Muzik. Kastick admits there was some apprehension about going on record as a singer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are jitters when you realize now that you are the one that is going to do the singing and harmonies. Singing is not my area of expertise, but I know certain things, because I have worked with top singers over the years,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea to cover <\/span>\u2018Night by Night\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b> came from Valentino, a session musician who has worked with several Jamaican acts such as Richie Stephens, Lavaska and Tessanne Chin. His biggest Jamaican production to date, has been Chin\u2019s <\/span>\u2018Hideaway\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, a 2006 reggae-rock jam he co-produced with Kastick.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Night by Night\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b> is part of \u2018My Reggae Rockin\u2019 Journey Vol: 1\u2019, an album that hears Kastick and Valentino covering hard rock classics such as <\/span>\u2018Here I go Again\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b> and <\/span>\u2018Is This Love\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b> by Whitesnake, and <\/span>\u2018Every Rose Has its Thorn\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b> by Poison.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kastick is from Montego Bay, where he started his career during the early 1980s as a drummer in hotel bands. His first big break was with the 809 Band alongside saxophonist Dean Fraser, trombonist Nambo Robinson and bassist Gibby Morrison.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
