Singer A J Brown is committed to original material.<\/span> This is evident in the 16 songs on\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>Shots of Love\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, his fifth solo album. He wrote or co-wrote all of them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Shots of Love\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u202fis scheduled for release on August 7 at Mature Mondays, located at 52 Dumbarton Avenue, near Half-Way-Tree in St Andrew.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the veteran singer’s first album since\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>Voice of Love\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u202fwhich came out in 2007.\u00a0 “What I do is keep writing and writing. The difficulty is getting it to the level of popularity because the marketing and distribution has to be at a certain standard,” Brown said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Three of\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>Shots of Love<\/span><\/i><\/b>‘s\u2019<\/span><\/b> songs have been released. Those are\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>Living in The Now\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, <\/span><\/i>\u2018You Used to Believe\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>,\u202f<\/span><\/i>and<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/i>\u2018Jah Will Always Be Around\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>Voice of Love\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, Brown covered a number of spiritual songs including\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>You Raise Me Up\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>,<\/span><\/i>\u202fwhich is one of his biggest hits.\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>Love People\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, <\/span><\/i>\u2018My Father My Friend\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, and <\/span><\/i>\u2018Words of Wisdom\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u202fwere also strong sellers for the St James-born vocalist who first came to prominence in the late 1970s on the north coast hotel circuit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 2014 Brown has been lead singer for Third World. He succeeded Bunny Rugs, who died from cancer in February that year.\u00a0 On\u202f<\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/b>More Work to Be Done\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/b>, the band’s 2019 album, Brown co-wrote eight of its 11 songs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He believes being original is critical for an artiste.\u00a0 “Most originals, if written properly, can become classics. I write about what’s happening around the writer\u2026 I write to connect,” he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Artistes Hezron and Tamara B are scheduled to perform at the album launch event with music from DJ Snow, proprietor of Mature Mondays, DJ Smurf, DJ Candy out of New York and Billy Slaughter.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
