Although her husband recorded hit songs with The Wailing Souls and Black Uhuru, his widow Jenje Dennis said <strong><em>\u2018Eyes Open\u2019<\/em><\/strong> is her favorite track by him.\u00a0 \u201cThat song is like a prayer, like a meditation. And its so Garth; for him to be concerned with humanity and to see the positive side of it,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis, who died in December 2021 in Los Angeles at age 72, recorded <strong><em>\u2018Words\u2019<\/em><\/strong> and<em> \u2018<strong>Eyes Open\u2019<\/strong> <\/em>with Smith, keyboardists Tyrone Downie, Franklyn \u201cBubbler\u201d Waul and Robbie Lyn, and drummer Sean Dawson.\u00a0 \u201cWi jus&#8217; keep di natural acoustic vibe, &#8217;cause dat&#8217;s what wi learn from the elders,\u201d he said in a 2019 interview.<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Trench Town, Dennis lived in Los Angeles for over 30 years. \u2018Trench Town 19 3rd Street\u2019 is a salute to that Kingston community where he spent his formative years, surrounded by heroes like Joe Higgs, Bob Marley and Rasta visionary Mortimo Planno.<\/p>\n<p>His older sister, Joan Dennis, is a long-time resident of Canada.
