{"id":4925,"date":"2022-12-02T10:31:38","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T10:31:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4925"},"modified":"2022-12-02T10:31:38","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T10:31:38","slug":"luciano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4925","title":{"rendered":"LUCIANO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Jepther McClymont<\/b>\u00a0OD\u00a0(born 20 October 1964),<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0better known as\u00a0<b>Luciano<\/b>, is a\u00a0Jamaican\u00a0second-generation\u00a0<a title=\"Roots reggae\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roots_reggae\">roots reggae<\/a>\u00a0singer.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Davyton,\u00a0<a title=\"Manchester Parish\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manchester_Parish\">Manchester Parish<\/a>, and raised as the seventh of nine children in a strict\u00a0Adventist\u00a0family, Luciano began recording in 1992, with his first single &#8220;Ebony &amp; Ivory&#8221; (on which he was credited as &#8216;Stepper John&#8217;) on the Aquarius Record label, followed by a split album with DJ Presley (now credited as &#8216;Luciana&#8217;) for producer Sky High.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0His first releases as Luciano included the hit single &#8220;Give My Love a Try&#8221;, produced at Castro Brown&#8217;s New Name Studio, followed by others produced by Brown,\u00a0Freddie McGregor, Blacka Dread, and\u00a0Sly and Robbie, including the 1993 no. 1\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"UK\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/UK\">UK<\/a>\u00a0reggae hit &#8220;Shake It Up Tonight&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-start_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>He started working with\u00a0<a title=\"Philip &quot;Fatis&quot; Burrell\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philip_%22Fatis%22_Burrell\">Philip &#8220;Fatis&#8221; Burrell<\/a>, releasing the singles &#8220;Chant Out&#8221; and &#8220;Poor and Simple&#8221;, with the\u00a0<a title=\"Album\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Album\">album<\/a>\u00a0<i>Moving Up<\/i>\u00a0following in late 1993.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_1-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0In 1994 he cut singles for Musclehead and Louie Culture before returning to work with Burrell for a series of successful singles and the album\u00a0<i>One Way Ticket<\/i>, which saw Luciano at the forefront of the &#8220;Rasta Renaissance&#8221; in\u00a0<a title=\"Dancehall\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dancehall\">dancehall<\/a>\u00a0music.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_1-4\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-campbell_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0The renewal of Rastafarian influence into dancehall music in the early 1990s had begun with artists such as\u00a0<a title=\"Tony Rebel\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tony_Rebel\">Tony Rebel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Garnett Silk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Garnett_Silk\">Garnett Silk<\/a>. After Silk&#8217;s death in late 1994, many looked to Luciano to continue consciousness in reggae music. Of Garnett Silk, he stated &#8220;Garnett was more like a brother, a father, a tutor, a forerunner.
