A master percussionist, he contributed to every style of this nation&#8217;s popular and not so popular musical forms, including jazz, mento, burru, nyabinghi, rock steady and, by extension, reggae. He is most well known for his contribution to the development of the rhythm of the\u00a0<a title=\"Ska\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ska\">ska<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Miller_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lloyd_Knibb#cite_note-Miller-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0He played for\u00a0<a title=\"The Skatalites\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Skatalites\">The Skatalites<\/a>\u00a0(in the 1960s up to his death), and for\u00a0<a title=\"Tommy McCook\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tommy_McCook\">Tommy McCook &amp; The Supersonics<\/a>. Knibb recorded for the producers\u00a0<a title=\"Lloyd Daley\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lloyd_Daley\">Lloyd &#8220;Matador&#8221; Daley<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Duke Reid\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duke_Reid\">Duke Reid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Born in\u00a0<a title=\"Kingston, Jamaica\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kingston,_Jamaica\">Kingston, Jamaica<\/a>\u00a0in 1931, Knibb, grew up on Bond Street, close to where a local band rehearsed, and he made his own drum kit from a wooden box and paint cans to practice the sounds that he had heard.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Miller_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0Like a lot of musicians in the 1940s, he honed his craft in jazz bands.
