Sean Paul\u2019s <\/strong>\u2018Scorcha\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, Shaggy\u2019s <\/strong>\u2018Com Fly Wid Mi\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, Kabaka Pyramid\u2019s <\/strong>\u2018The Kalling\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, Protoje\u2019s <\/strong>\u2018Third Times the Charm\u2019<\/em><\/strong> and Koffee\u2019s <\/strong>\u2018Gifted\u2019<\/em><\/strong> are the nominees in the Best Reggae Album category at the 65th annual Grammy Awards.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Recording Academy made the announcement today, November 15th<\/sup> at the 2023 GRAMMY nominations livestream event in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The Best Reggae Recording award was first handed out in 1985. Since the inception, Jamaican artists have dominated the category with only two non-Jamaican winners; Steel Pulse from England and SOJA from the United States.<\/p>\n

There were mixed reactions from reggae fans in 2022 when the American group SOJA won the Best Reggae Album category. Fans are waiting in anticipation to see who will win the category in 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Scorcha\u2019<\/strong> by Sean Paul was released in May 2022 via Island Records.\u00a0 This is Sean Paul’s eighth studio album. He has been a nominee on several occasions and won the award in 2004 for the multi-platinum\u00a0\u2018Dutty Rock\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Sinatra Songbook Inna Reggae Style by Shaggy<\/strong> is produced by frequent collaborator Sting.\u00a0\u2018Com Fly Wid Mi\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0hears Shaggy tackling 10 of the legendary actor\/singer Frank Sinatra’s best-known songs.\u00a0\u2018Com Fly Wid Mi\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>was released in May and will give Shaggy another Grammy nod. He has two wins,\u00a0\u2018Boombastic\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in 1996 and\u00a0\u201844\/876\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>with Sting in 2019.<\/p>\n

Kabaka Pyramid<\/strong>\u00a0joined forces with\u00a0Damian “Junior Gong” Marley<\/strong>\u00a0to produce all the 15 tracks \u2018The Kalling\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, seven of them co-produced by\u00a0Sean “Young Pow” Diederick<\/strong>.\u00a0 Featured artists on the album include Damian Marley<\/a> \/Buju Banton\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0Protoje\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0Jesse Royal\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0Stephen Marley\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0Damian Marley\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0Jemere Morgan\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0Black-Am-I\u00a0<\/a>\/\u00a0Tifa\u00a0<\/a>and Peter Tosh<\/a>. The album is released on the Ghetto Youths International Label.<\/p>\n

\u2018Third Time\u2019s the Charm\u2019<\/em><\/strong> by Protoje incorporates elements of classic and neo-soul, rock, and especially hip-hop, but this time around, Protoje strongly emphasizes his Jamaican\/reggae roots.<\/p>\n

Recorded primarily at Protoje\u2019s studio,\u00a0The Habitat<\/strong>, located in the hills of Kingston, Jamaica, the tight-knit set features an array of the island\u2019s musical visionaries including featured vocalists like\u00a0Samory I<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>Lila Ik\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong>Jesse Royal<\/strong>, <\/strong>and producers like\u00a0<\/strong>Iotosh<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>Ziah.Push<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>Zion I Kings<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(which consists of\u00a0<\/strong>Laurent \u201cTippy I\u201d Alfred, Romaine \u201cTeflonzincfence\u201d Arnett\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0David \u201cJAH David\u201d Goldfine<\/strong>). \u00a0He also tapped the soulful British singer Jorja Smith<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0\u2018Ten Cane Row\u2019<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Gifted\u2019<\/em><\/strong> by Koffee is the follow-up to her Grammy-winning EP\u00a0\u2018Rapture\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0Koffee released\u00a0Gifted<\/em>\u00a0through Land Recordings\/Columbia Records in March. It made her the first female artiste from Jamaica to place in the top 10 of the United Kingdom’s Official Albums chart.<\/p>\n

The 2023 GRAMMY AWARDS will happen live on Sunday, February 5th<\/sup>, 2023, at the Crypto.Com Arena in Los Angeles, California.<\/p>\n
