Leslie Tucker<\/b>, known as\u00a0Junior Tucker<\/b>\u00a0(born 1966 in\u00a0Trenchtown<\/a>,\u00a0Kingston<\/a>, Jamaica), is a Jamaican\u00a0reggae<\/a>\u00a0singer, who started his career in secular music but who now sings Christian music. His hits included “Happy” and his own composition, “Don’t Test”.<\/p>\n

His first hit was “Happy”, released when he was aged seven years old, and was a No. 1\u00a0hit single<\/a>\u00a0in Jamaica, where he was known as the Jamaican\u00a0Michael Jackson<\/a>.<\/sup><\/sup>\u00a0He performed the tune at the\u00a0One Love Peace Concert<\/a>\u00a0in 1978.<\/sup>\u00a0He had further hits with his\u00a0cover version<\/a>\u00a0of “Some Guys Have All The Luck<\/a>” and, in 1983, recorded the first version of “Mr. Telephone Man<\/a>“, a 1984\u00a0Top 20<\/a>\u00a0Billboard<\/a><\/i>\u00a0hit for\u00a0New Edition<\/a>.<\/sup>\u00a0He then studied\u00a0audio engineering<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0Institute of Audio Research<\/a>\u00a0in New York City, and following his study began to write his own songs. “Don’t Test”, one of his first compositions, became an international hit earning him a recording contract with\u00a0Virgin<\/a>\u00a0in 1989. “Don’t Test” peaked at No. 54 in the\u00a0UK Singles Chart<\/a>\u00a0in June 1990.<\/sup>\u00a0He was released from his Virgin contract in 1991, returning to Jamaica, where he became a\u00a0dancehall<\/a>\u00a0act.<\/p>\n

Tucker also had international success (especially in Australia in 1991) with a reggae cover of the 1980\u00a0Benny Mardones<\/a>\u00a0hit “Into the Night<\/a>“. Junior Tucker’s version was called “16 (Into The Night)”. In 1993, he recorded a No. 1 hit in “Love of a Lifetime”, releasing an album of the same name later that year for\u00a0VP Records<\/a>.<\/sup><\/sup><\/p>\n
