{"id":4648,"date":"2022-10-21T04:26:15","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T04:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4648"},"modified":"2022-10-21T04:31:01","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T04:31:01","slug":"festival-song-winner-lavie-lujah-crushing-stereotype-with-debut-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4648","title":{"rendered":"Festival Song Winner LaVie Lujah Crushing Stereotype with Debut Album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2021 International Festival song winner LaVie Lujah recently released his debut album titled\u00a0<em><strong>\u2018I am LaVie Lujah\u2019<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0With this album, the talented reggae singer\/songwriter seeks to push boundaries and break barriers using music, crushing the stereotype that has plagued many festival song winners before him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost Jamaican singers who are festival song winners are labeled that way throughout their career,\u201d LaVie said. \u201cI will not fall in that category. \u00a0I intend to drive conversations around topical issues with music, using my life\u2019s experiences to create entertaining yet thought-provoking songs that will erase that thought process\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Born Laval Wilkinson, LaVie Lujah introduced himself to the music world in 2020 with his debut single\u00a0<em><strong>\u2018I Can\u2019t Breathe.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0\u00a0He came into the limelight in 2021, making history as the first winner of the inaugural Jamaica International Independence Foreign Song Competition (JIIFSC), with his entry\u00a0<em><strong>\u2018Certified Yardie\u2019<\/strong><\/em>. In 2022, his entry\u00a0<em><strong>Jamaica Rise and Shine\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>won 2nd place in the same competition.<\/p>\n<p>LaVie Lujah\u2019s decision to drop his debut album\u00a0<em><strong>\u2018I am LaVie Lujah\u2019 <\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is undoubtedly a step in the right direction as he works to change a few perceptions about reggae and how the acts and musicians should look and sound. \u201cI do songs that people only expect from an artist wearing dreadlocks\u201d, he said. \u201cThe songs on this album are about life and truth and embody the reggae spirit\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Certified Yardie singer gets his inspiration from the legendary Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown, and Gregory Isaacs.
