{"id":4408,"date":"2022-09-09T14:38:45","date_gmt":"2022-09-09T14:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4408"},"modified":"2022-09-09T14:39:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-09T14:39:47","slug":"bujus-son-jahleel-myrie-speaks-to-his-love-for-black-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4408","title":{"rendered":"Buju&#8217;s Son Jahleel Myrie Speaks to His Love for Black Women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jahleel\u00a0&#8220;Leelo&#8221; Myrie, son of Grammy-winning dancehall deejay Buju Banton, says he is ready to take his music to the world.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He is currently promoting his latest single\u00a0<strong>\u2018<em>Melanin\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, released July 2022 on his Leelo Records imprint.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The inspiration of\u00a0<strong>\u2018<em>Melanin\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0came after I wrote the song and began searching for dancehall song to sample and came across my dad&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>\u2018<em>Champion\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and decided to use his vocals in my song,&#8221; said the 23-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>According to Myrie<strong>,\u00a0\u2018<em>Melanin\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0speaks to his love for beautiful black women. Myrie&#8217;s dad, Buju Banton, has two songs professing his love for women \u2014 those of a lighter shade in\u00a0<strong>\u2018<em>Love Mi Browning\u2019<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(1991) and for the dark-skinned ones in\u00a0<strong>\u2018<em>Love Black Woman\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1992).<\/p>\n<p>The former St George&#8217;s College and Jamaica College student says he will be doing dancehall songs, minus any form of violence.\u00a0 &#8220;I know dancehall fans wants to hear a certain type of lyrics, but I am not going that route,\u201d Myrie said. \u201cI will not be engaging in either gun songs or negative lyrics. I have a responsibility which is to provide clean entertainment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The singjay now joins two of his siblings in music, singjay Jahazeil and record producer Markus in carrying on their father&#8217;s legacy. &#8220;A lot of people don&#8217;t know Jahleel because I have been quietly working behind the scenes.
