{"id":4269,"date":"2022-08-26T08:13:19","date_gmt":"2022-08-26T08:13:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4269"},"modified":"2022-08-26T08:13:19","modified_gmt":"2022-08-26T08:13:19","slug":"lloyd-parks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=4269","title":{"rendered":"Lloyd Parks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Born in\u00a0<a title=\"Kingston, Jamaica\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kingston,_Jamaica\">Kingston<\/a>, Jamaica, Parks&#8217; interest in music was fuelled by his uncle Dourie Bryan, who played in a\u00a0<a title=\"Calypso music\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Calypso_music\">calypso<\/a>\u00a0band, and Parks became the band&#8217;s singer.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Shakespeare_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0In the late 1960s, he performed with the Invincibles band (whose members also included\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Ansell Collins\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ansell_Collins\">Ansell Collins<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Sly Dunbar\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sly_Dunbar\">Sly Dunbar<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Ranchie McLean\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ranchie_McLean\">Ranchie McLean<\/a>) before teaming up with Wentworth Vernal in\u00a0<a title=\"The Termites\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Termites\">The Termites<\/a>. <sup id=\"cite_ref-Shakespeare_2-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Campbell1507_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>In 1967, they\u00a0<a title=\"Sound recording and reproduction\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sound_recording_and_reproduction\">recorded<\/a>\u00a0their first single, &#8220;Have Mercy Mr. Percy&#8221;, and then an album\u00a0<i>Do the Rocksteady<\/i>\u00a0for\u00a0<a title=\"Coxsone Dodd\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coxsone_Dodd\">Coxsone Dodd<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0<a title=\"Studio One (record label)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Studio_One_(record_label)\">Studio One<\/a>\u00a0label. After recording &#8220;Rub Up Push Up&#8221; for the Dampa label, Parks and Vernal split up. Parks then briefly joined\u00a0<a title=\"The Techniques\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Techniques\">The Techniques<\/a>\u00a0as a replacement for\u00a0<a title=\"Pat Kelly (musician)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pat_Kelly_(musician)\">Pat Kelly<\/a>, <sup id=\"cite_ref-Campbell1507_3-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>recording tracks such as &#8220;Say You Love Me&#8221;, before embarking on a solo career and later starting his own label, Parks. His second single was the classic &#8220;Slaving&#8221;, a moving song about the struggles of a working man. As a solo artist, he recorded a number of songs for Prince Tony Robinson, including &#8220;Trenchtown Girl&#8221; and &#8220;You Don&#8217;t Care&#8221;.
