As a producer he had hits on the reggae charts with the likes of\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Cultural Roots (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Cultural_Roots&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Cultural Roots<\/a>&#8216; &#8220;Mr. Boss Man&#8221; in 1980, and broke through into the UK Singles Chart in the early and mid-1980s with\u00a0<a title=\"Sugar Minott\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sugar_Minott\">Sugar Minott<\/a>&#8216;s &#8220;Good Thing Going&#8221; and\u00a0<a title=\"Audrey Hall\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Audrey_Hall\">Audrey Hall<\/a>&#8216;s &#8220;One Dance Won&#8217;t Do&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Larkin_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Barrow_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He ran the Revolutionary Sounds label which started in the early 1980s and ran from New York, and also ran the Rub-a-Dub, Reggae, and Germain labels.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-obs_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0One of Germain label&#8217;s most well-known records on the sound system circuit in UK, especially on\u00a0<a title=\"Jah Shaka\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jah_Shaka\">Jah Shaka<\/a>\u00a0sound, was Sam Bramwell&#8217;s\u00a0<i>It ago Dread inna\u00a0<a title=\"Babylon\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Babylon\">Babylon<\/a><\/i>, which Bramwell&#8211; previously a vocalist with\u00a0<a title=\"The Chantells\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Chantells\">The Chantells<\/a>\u00a0&#8212; recorded with\u00a0<a title=\"The Revolutionaries\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Revolutionaries\">The Revolutionaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donovan_Germain\">Read me&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Germain&#8217;s entry into the music industry was via his record shop in\u00a0New York City in the 1970s.\u00a0He began production in 1972, visiting Jamaica for recording sessions, working in both\u00a0roots reggae\u00a0and\u00a0lovers rock.
