{"id":3953,"date":"2022-07-22T12:29:29","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T12:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=3953"},"modified":"2022-07-29T05:08:09","modified_gmt":"2022-07-29T05:08:09","slug":"beenie-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=3953","title":{"rendered":"Beenie Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Davis was born in the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Waterhouse district of Kingston\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Waterhouse_district_of_Kingston\">Waterhouse district of Kingston<\/a>\u00a0in 1973.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Greene_3-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Moskowitz_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0He was involved in the music industry from a young age, started\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Deejay (Jamaican)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deejay_(Jamaican)\">toasting<\/a>\u00a0at the age of five, and was encouraged by his uncle Sydney Knowles, who played drums for\u00a0<a title=\"Jimmy Cliff\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jimmy_Cliff\">Jimmy Cliff<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Larkin_7-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Roper_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0He won the Tastee Talent contest in 1981,<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_5-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Jackson_9-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0and Radio DJ Barry G introduced him to local\u00a0<a title=\"Sound system (Jamaican)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sound_system_(Jamaican)\">sound system<\/a>\u00a0operators, who helped to establish the popularity of the young deejay, who became known as Beenie Man.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Larkin_7-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0He recorded his debut single, &#8220;Too Fancy&#8221;, with record producer\u00a0<a title=\"Henry &quot;Junjo&quot;
