He began his musical career as a dub master at\u00a0<a title=\"King Tubby\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_Tubby\">King Tubby<\/a>&#8216;s recording studio. His dubs were known for their clear sound and use of effects.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Music_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>After earning money from building amplifiers and repairing electrical equipment from his mother&#8217;s house in\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Waterhouse district of Kingston, Jamaica\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Waterhouse_district_of_Kingston,_Jamaica\">Waterhouse<\/a>\u00a0in the late 1960s, he started his own\u00a0<a title=\"Sound system (Jamaican)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sound_system_(Jamaican)\">sound system<\/a>. <sup id=\"cite_ref-Larkin_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>He also built equipment for other local systems.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Larkin_3-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0After leaving Jamaica to work in Canada for a few years in the early 1970s, he returned to Kingston in 1976 and set up his own studio at his in-laws&#8217; home in Waterhouse,<sup id=\"cite_ref-Larkin_3-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0and released a couple of\u00a0<a title=\"Yabby You\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yabby_You\">Yabby You<\/a>\u00a0productions.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Rough_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0When Phillip Smart left\u00a0<a title=\"King Tubby\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_Tubby\">King Tubby<\/a>&#8216;s team to work in New York City, Jammy replaced him, getting to work with\u00a0<a title=\"Bunny Lee\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bunny_Lee\">Bunny Lee<\/a>\u00a0and Yabby You.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Larkin_3-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_Jammy\">Read more&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lloyd James\u00a0(born 26 October 1947),\u00a0better known as\u00a0Prince Jammy\u00a0or\u00a0King Jammy, is a Jamaican\u00a0dub\u00a0mixer and record producer.
