{"id":3520,"date":"2022-05-27T14:15:11","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T14:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=3520"},"modified":"2022-05-27T14:25:34","modified_gmt":"2022-05-27T14:25:34","slug":"atf-band-smokes-on-collie-weed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=3520","title":{"rendered":"ATF Band Smokes on Collie Weed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ATF Band lights up for their latest song, titled <strong><em>\u2018Collie Weed\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, a salute to the virtues of marijuana or ganja as it\u2019s known in Jamaica.<\/p>\n<p>The song was released in mid-May and is driven by the music of <strong><em>\u2018Summer Breeze\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, a massive hit for blue-eyed soul duo Seals &amp; Croft in 1972.\u00a0 Stephen Lee, the band\u2019s drummer, credits keyboardist\/vocalist Herbie Harris for coming up with the idea for <strong><em>\u2018Collie Weed\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHerbie had done a demo about three years ago of\u00a0<strong><em>\u2018Summer Breeze\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. About a month ago after rehearsal we were all chatting and decided to do a cover song. Herbie said let\u2019s go in the studio and he played the demo\u00a0he had done. Of course, it was \u2018Summer Breeze\u2019. We then all agreed to record it and change the chorus to <strong><em>\u2018Collie Weed\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, change the words in the verses, but keep the Seals &amp; Croft melody,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>The irony of the song is none of ATF Band\u2019s four members are smokers.\u00a0 \u201cActually, we had a good laugh as non-smokers recording <strong><em>\u2018Collie Weed\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. But the herb is not just for smoking. Sometimes we drink herb tea and use herb ointments for ailments,\u201d said Lee.<\/p>\n<p>Bassist Lyndon \u201cAce\u201d Webb and Courtland White on guitar complete the ATF Band lineup.
