The single topped the\u00a0US\u00a0<i>Billboard<\/i>\u00a0Hot 100\u00a0as well as record charts in Denmark and New Zealand, reaching number four on the\u00a0UK Singles Chart.<sup id=\"cite_ref-British_Hit_Singles_&amp;_Albums_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-OCC_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>He made his first\u00a0single, &#8220;World Affairs&#8221;, in 1981. <sup id=\"cite_ref-Mguide_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>Kamoze then released a 12-inch single &#8220;Trouble You A Trouble Me&#8221;\/&#8221;General&#8221; in 1983.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Mguide_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>His self-titled debut album was released in 1984 as a six-track mini-LP\u00a0on\u00a0Island Records.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Mguide_1-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In the album notes he describes himself as a &#8220;pencil-thin&#8230; disentangled&#8230; six-foot vegetarian&#8221;. <sup id=\"cite_ref-AMG_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>The album included the song &#8220;World a Music (Out in the Streets They Call It Merther)&#8221;,<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0which was to be\u00a0sampled\u00a0by\u00a0Damian Marley\u00a0on his 2005\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Chart hit\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chart_hit\">hit<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;<a title=\"Welcome to Jamrock (song)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Welcome_to_Jamrock_(song)\">Welcome to Jamrock<\/a>&#8220;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-allmusic1_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Boom_7-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0The album was recorded with and produced by\u00a0Sly and Robbie, with whom he also toured internationally along with\u00a0<a title=\"Yellowman\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yellowman\">Yellowman<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Half Pint\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Half_Pint\">Half Pint<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-AMG_4-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Broughton_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Vare_9-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Moskowitz_10-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0By 1988, however, Kamoze had effectively disappeared from the music scene following lukewarm reactions to his intermittent releases.<sup id=\"cite_ref-AMG_4-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Kamoze founded his own label, releasing a\u00a0<a title=\"Compilation album\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Compilation_album\">compilation album<\/a>\u00a0<i>Selekta Showcase<\/i> which featured a popular Kamoze single titled &#8220;Stress&#8221;.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-Mguide_1-4\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>Four years later he released his next album,\u00a0<i>16 Vibes of Ini Kamoze<\/i>, which sold well.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Mguide_1-5\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ini_Kamoze\">Read more&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ini Kamoze\u00a0(\/\u02c8a\u026ani\u00a0k\u0259\u02c8mo\u028azi\/\u00a0EYE-nee k\u0259-MOH-zee, born\u00a0Cecil Campbell; 9 October 1957)\u00a0is a\u00a0Jamaican\u00a0reggae\u00a0artist who began his career in the early 1980s and rose to prominence in 1994 with the\u00a0signature song\u00a0&#8220;Here Comes the Hotstepper&#8221;.
