He ran the Jack Ruby Hi Fi sound system and is considered one of the best\u00a0roots reggae\u00a0producers of the 1970s, having established a distinctive sound,<sup id=\"cite_ref-Barrow_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0noted for the unique use of horn arrangements.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Unterberger_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0Ruby produced Burning Spear&#8217;s\u00a0<i><a title=\"Marcus Garvey (album)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marcus_Garvey_(album)\">Marcus Garvey<\/a><\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i><a title=\"Man in the Hills\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Man_in_the_Hills\">Man in the Hills<\/a><\/i>\u00a0albums, both of which were licensed to\u00a0Island Records, establishing Spear as an international success.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Barrow_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0Other artists that he produced include\u00a0Justin Hinds\u00a0(<i>Just in Time<\/i>\/<i>Jezebel<\/i>),<sup id=\"cite_ref-Moskowitz_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0<a title=\"The Gaylads\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Gaylads\">The Gaylads<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"The Heptones\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Heptones\">The Heptones<\/a>, and\u00a0Big Youth.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Barrow_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Ruby appeared as himself in the film\u00a0<i>Rockers<\/i>, which also features\u00a0Kiddus I recording &#8220;Graduation in Zion&#8221; in Ruby&#8217;s studio.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-Bafaloukos_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>In the 1980s he suffered from ill-health and his productions were less regular, although he produced the debut album by\u00a0Foundation\u00a0in 1988.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Keating_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0He died in 1989.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Unterberger_2-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>His son, who works under the name Jack Ruby Jr. is a\u00a0deejay\u00a0who has worked with\u00a0The Toasters,<sup id=\"cite_ref-Nickson_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0and his grandson is the popular singer\u00a0Sean Kingston.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Campbell_7-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Mitchell_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawrence Lindo\u00a0(died April 1989), better known as\u00a0Jack Ruby, was a Jamaican\u00a0record producer\u00a0and\u00a0sound system\u00a0operator, best known for his 1970s productions of artists such as\u00a0Burning Spear.
