{"id":2971,"date":"2022-02-24T19:21:07","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T19:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=2971"},"modified":"2022-02-24T19:21:07","modified_gmt":"2022-02-24T19:21:07","slug":"lloyd-lovindeer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=2971","title":{"rendered":"Lloyd Lovindeer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Born in\u00a0<a title=\"Kingston, Jamaica\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kingston,_Jamaica\">Kingston<\/a>, Lloyd Lovindeer spent some of his childhood in\u00a0<a title=\"Ewarton\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ewarton\">Ewarton<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<a title=\"Saint Catherine Parish\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Catherine_Parish\">St Catherine<\/a>. <sup id=\"cite_ref-Jackson_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>He attended\u00a0<a title=\"Kingston College (Jamaica)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kingston_College_(Jamaica)\">Kingston College<\/a>\u00a0and on leaving formed\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"The Fabulous Flames (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=The_Fabulous_Flames&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">The Fabulous Flames<\/a> with friends, the group releasing their first single, &#8220;Holly Holy&#8221;, in 1971.\u00a0The group split up in the mid-1970s and Lovindeer began a solo career while living in Canada between 1976 and 1982.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Jackson_2-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>He returned to Jamaica and had hits in the 1980s with &#8220;Babylon Boops&#8221; (a response to\u00a0<a title=\"Super Cat\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Super_Cat\">Super Cat<\/a>&#8216;s &#8220;Boops&#8221;), &#8220;Don&#8217;t Bend Down&#8221;, and &#8220;Man Shortage&#8221;, before having the biggest hit of his career with &#8220;Wild Gilbert&#8221;. <sup id=\"cite_ref-Jackson_2-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>Released in September 1988, &#8220;Wild Gilbert&#8221; humorously describes the experiences of Jamaica during 1988&#8217;s\u00a0<a title=\"Hurricane Gilbert\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hurricane_Gilbert\">Hurricane Gilbert<\/a> and remains the island&#8217;s biggest selling single with sales estimated at between 50,000 and 200,000 copies.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-Jackson_2-4\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-Walker_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>The song also appeared on his album\u00a0<i>Why Don&#8217;t We All Have Sex<\/i>, which included another Gilbert-themed track, &#8220;Gilbert \u2013 One Hell of a Blow-Job&#8221;, and the hurricane theme continued on his 1989 album\u00a0<i>Gilbert Yu Gone<\/i>. He followed it with hits such as &#8220;Pocomonia Day&#8221;, which along with the 1989 album\u00a0<i>One Day Christian<\/i>\u00a0triggered a spate of &#8220;Poco style&#8221; releases based on rhythms from\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Pukumina (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Pukumina&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Pukumina<\/a> religious songs.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Thompson_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lloyd_Lovindeer\">Read more&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Born in\u00a0Kingston, Lloyd Lovindeer spent some of his childhood in\u00a0Ewarton\u00a0in\u00a0St Catherine.
