The organisers have since apologized and admitted that the blunder was a \u201chuman error\u201d they regret.<\/p>\n<p>The Caribbean Music Awards (CMA), which took place on August 28 in New York and aired on BET on September 12, had been promoted as a premier platform to recognize Caribbean music and culture. But instead of a highlight, Kranium says the situation was the \u201cbiggest disrespect\u201d of his career.<\/p>\n<p>In an Instagram post on Tuesday, he wrote in the caption: \u201cCaribbean Music Award y\u2019all are one set a p_____s and users !!! @caribmusicawards.\u201d He then shared an Instagram Story video that showed him tossing the award in the garbage. Kranium captioned the clip: \u201c@caribmusicawards garbage is on Tuesdays\u2026 a it this me done with the conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pierre Bost, the singer\u2019s manager since 2013, said in a statement to\u00a0<strong>DancehallMag\u00a0<\/strong>that he had \u201cnever seen anything like this before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKranium attended the award to perform\u00a0<strong><em>\u2018Higher Life\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and because he was nominated in 5 categories (one of the artists [with] the most nominations this year),\u201d Bost explained. \u201cKranium delivered a great performance as usual and won\u00a0<em>Caribbean R&amp;B Artist of the Year<\/em>. He collected his award on stage in front of all the industry people present in the packed Brooklyn venue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Bost, days after the August 28 ceremony, the CMA team called Kranium, along with Dexta Daps, to say the award was given to the wrong person. They allegedly asked Kranium to return the trophy in exchange for a \u2018non-existent\u2019 category,\u00a0<em>Best Caribbean R&amp;B Song of the Year<\/em>, which he had not been nominated for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all know that it wasn\u2019t a mistake \u2013 BET already contacted us to license the track for Tv rights,\u201d Bost declared, adding: \u201cWe obviously didn\u2019t agree to this stupid and disrespectful option.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of this incredible situation, the Caribbean Music\u00a0Award team removed\u00a0Kranium\u00a0completely from the BET tv show and gave the award to Dexta Daps,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n<p>On September 16, the CMA issued an official statement via Instagram, apologizing for what it described as an \u201cunfortunate human error\u201d during the August 28 taping of the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, we introduced the Caribbean R&amp;B Artist of the Year category to recognize singers whose music may not fit strictly within traditional Caribbean genres,\u201d the organizers explained. \u201cDuring the process, we debated for weeks up until the week of the award ceremony whether to base the award on the artist overall or the impact of an artist\u2019s song during the voting period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They said that based on fan votes focused solely on the artist, Dexta Daps was the clear winner, receiving 40.8% of the vote, while Kranium received 12.6%. \u201cHad we focused on individual songs, Kranium\u2019s\u00a0<strong>\u2018<em>Higher Life\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0could have led based on streaming numbers. Considering no songs were publicly listed in this category during the voting period, we decided to keep the award focused on the artist and planned to introduce the Caribbean R&amp;B Song of the Year category next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organizers admitted that \u201coutdated documentation was mistakenly used in creating the winner cards,\u201d which led to the wrong announcement on the night of the show. \u201cWe informed all talent teams of the situation, took responsibility, and shared resolutions before the show aired,\u201d the organizers said.<\/p>\n<p>After internal review, they said, the decision was made to correct the\u00a0<em>Caribbean R&amp;B Artist of the Year<\/em>\u00a0winner \u201cto maintain the ethics on which the show was founded,\u201d while also proposing the introduction of a\u00a0<em>Caribbean R&amp;B Song of the Year<\/em>\u00a0category.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA added that they had \u201cdocumented communication with Kranium\u2019s management.\u201d According to their timeline, on September 2, his team requested that his likeness and performance be removed from the show and declined the proposed category award. On September 4, Kranium\u2019s team also asked that no mention of the error be included in the updated winner\u2019s press release, according to CMA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understood Kranium\u2019s disappointment and respected his team\u2019s decision, honoring all of their requests,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA closed by expressing regret: \u201cWe deeply regret all that has transpired, and we are implementing new safeguards to prevent future issues. It is never our aim to divide, diminish or dishonor.
