In a genre where tradition often rules, emerging artist Justice Kumari is carving out a fresh space for himself with a bold new single, \u201cDiamonds and Pearls.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> A rising talent in the Canadian reggae and dancehall scene, Justice blends rhythmic experimentation with emotional depth \u2014 and the result is nothing short of captivating.<\/p>\n

Fresh off the heels of his earlier success with \u2018Tek Time<\/em>,\u2019<\/strong> the artist, whose real name is Tyler Lee, returns with a track that\u2019s sonically richer and more globally appealing. \u201cI started listening to more Soca, Latin, and uptempo dancehall,\u201d Justice says. \u201cI wanted the follow-up to \u2018Tek Time\u2019<\/em><\/strong> to be bigger, better, and more appealing to an international audience.\u201d The beat came together quickly in the studio \u2014 chords, drums, and inspiration flowing seamlessly. From there, the writing felt effortless, shaped by a personal love story unfolding in real life. \u201cI leaned into the romantic, fun side of a relationship I was experiencing at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Produced by Justice himself and Young Le Chino, with a vibrant visual directed by RA Visuals, the music video brings the song\u2019s title to life. It weaves together literal and symbolic images of beauty, elegance, and depth \u2014 showcasing shimmering necklaces and a radiant lead actress who embodies the spirit of “diamonds and pearls.” The video\u2019s highlight? \u201cShooting on a boat with my friends, sister, cousins, and the lead actress \u2014 it was a moment out of my comfort zone and something truly amazing to experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"For Justice, the creative process is about constant evolution. \u201cThis is definitely different from my previous work,\u201d he admits. \u201cBut that\u2019s how it should be. As an artist, it\u2019s important to expand genres, reach new audiences, innovate, and always make the next thing better or different than the last.\u201d<\/p>\n

That drive to innovate doesn\u2019t mean he strays from his core purpose. Justice\u2019s mission is clear: to bring joy. \u201cIf I can take away \u2014 even for 2 minutes \u2014 someone\u2019s stress from sickness, grief, mental health, a breakup, or financial issues, then my work is complete.\u201d<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes, Justice is as committed as he is in front of the mic. \u201cVoicing in the studio is one of my favorite parts,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m very particular with my vocal performance \u2014 I\u2019ll do it over 1000 times until I get the right take.\u201d That attention to detail was especially crucial with this release, which marked his first single in over a year. \u201cI didn\u2019t know if people still cared,\u201d he admits. \u201cBut I was gladly surprised they do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through the doubts and delays, Justice leaned on his support system \u2014 a tight-knit group of childhood friends, cousins, uncles, aunts, his ever-steady father, and his partner, who helps keep him grounded. \u201cThey\u2019re a huge part of everything I do musically and creatively.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, what does \u2018Diamonds and Pearls\u2019<\/em><\/strong> mean to him? \u201cIt\u2019s what you call your loved one when they have everything you look for in a person,\u201d he says. \u201cThe personality, the looks, the character, the respect \u2014 that\u2019s what symbolizes \u2018diamonds and pearls\u2019 to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

This song, he explains, marks a new chapter. \u201cI\u2019m a mixed child, so by nature I\u2019ll have to blend and mix genres. It\u2019s literally in my blood. This is just the beginning of many pages of my music.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justice Kumari has no plans of slowing down. He\u2019s set to headline Emancipation Day in Cambridge at Soper Park on July 26 and will hit the stage again in Calgary with Jah Messenjah Luciano<\/em><\/strong> for ReggaeFestica<\/em><\/strong> on August 29\u201330.
