{"id":10982,"date":"2025-07-11T10:19:41","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T10:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=10982"},"modified":"2025-07-11T10:19:58","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T10:19:58","slug":"general-smiley-has-the-fever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox.reggaenorthca.com\/?p=10982","title":{"rendered":"General Smiley has the Fever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the 30th anniversary of his\u00a0RuffCompany Records approaches, veteran deejay General Smiley is preparing a series of new releases from the California-based label. <strong><em>\u2018Fever Riddim\u2019,<\/em><\/strong> a compilation album, kicked off activities in April.<\/p>\n<p>It contains 15 songs on the classic <strong><em>\u2018Fever \u2018Riddim\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, recorded at Studio One during the early 1970s. One of the tracks is <strong><em>\u2018Mango Season\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, done by Papa Michigan with whom he formed the hitmaking duo, Papa Michigan and General Smiley.<\/p>\n<p>He contributes <strong><em>\u2018Mama Pray\u2019<\/em><\/strong> to the album, while Ken Serious does <strong><em>\u2018Today for You Tomorrow for Me\u2019,<\/em><\/strong> with Menny Moore doing <strong><em>\u2018Debate\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDi company is up and running with more strength so we can re-release (projects) on a wider scale. A lot of di things we started in LA, we\u2019ve been trying to put dem on all platforms,\u201d General Smiley explained.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u2018Let\u2019s Dance\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, another compilation album, is expected to be released by late summer. It will have songs by heavy hitters such as Mykal Rose and Luciano, as well as emerging artists.<\/p>\n<p>Born Errol Bennett, General Smiley is from the Maxfield Avenue area of Kingston, Jamaica\u2019s capital, which has produced a flurry of roots artists such as Linval Thompson, Michael Palmer and Michael Prophet.<\/p>\n<p>Like those artists and Papa Michigan, he cut his teeth on sound systems before launching his recording career.
