Reggae star Glen Washington has great hopes for his latest album, \u2018Just Giving Thanks\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, which was released on May 30.<\/p>\n

The Atlanta-based singer released the 14-song project via Tad\u2019s International Record. \u201cI\u2019m satisfied with the time it took to put it together, just the way we went about it. I also like how Tad\u2019s is presenting it,\u201d said Washington.<\/p>\n

He noted that most of its tracks, including\u00a0Chant Them Down<\/em><\/strong> and\u00a0Oh, To Be Like Him<\/em>,<\/strong> have a spiritual vibe. Washington caters to his lover\u2019s rock base with standout ballads such as\u00a0Sweet Loving<\/em><\/strong> and Affection<\/strong>, Loving You<\/strong> Forever<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Love Will Never Run Away<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

The musicians on the project read like a virtual who\u2019s who of the best musicians in Jamaica with names like bass players Flabba Holt of the Roots Radics Band and Donald \u201cDanny Bassie\u201d Dennis of The Firehouse Crew, keyboardist Franklyn \u201cBubbla\u201d Waul, drummer Kirk Bennett and saxophonist Dean Fraser.<\/p>\n

The project, \u2018Just Giving Thanks\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, is being released one year after \u2018Feeling Irie<\/strong>, Washington\u2019s previous album which featured songs recorded to beats from Treasure Isle, the legendary Jamaican label.<\/p>\n

Recently, Washington performed to a sold-out audience at the Fox & Firkin venue in Lewisham on June 1. He wowed the audience with a steady repertoire of hits like \u2018Strangers in the Night\u2019<\/em><\/strong> and \u2018My Love Belongs to You\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. The biggest forward of the night was reserved for his enduring hit, \u2018Kindness for Sweetness\u2019 and Glen wowed the females with a new song from the newly released album called \u2018Sweet Loving and Affection\u2019 which earned major forwards as well.<\/p>\n

The audience made a special request for Glen Washington to sing one of his old hits, the fiery \u2018Rockers Anno Crackers\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, which he first recorded when he was only 17 years old<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was crazy, every song mi fling down, bear toppa top we gwaan with,\u201d a pleased Glen Washington said.<\/p>\n

He will also be performing at the Bridge Park Centre on Harrow Road on June 8th. He will be performing on a show called \u2018Sunsplash\u2019 in Roatan, the Bay Islands between June 13 to 15. He will be in Jamaica to perform on a show dubbed \u2018Steady Rock\u2019 at Plantation Cove on June 21.<\/p>\n

Washington\u2019s journey in music began in the early 1970s as the lead singer of \u201cNames and Faces\u201d<\/em><\/strong> and later with \u201c35 Incorporated,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> where he learned to play drums under Joseph Hill. Washington\u2019s versatility shone through as he took on the role of singing drummer after Hill\u2019s departure. Notably, he also served as the main drummer for Stevie Wonder, showcasing his exceptional talent<\/p>\n

Washington\u2019s career took a significant turn with the release of \u201cRockers Not Crackers\u201d<\/em><\/strong> in 1978, but it was his hit \u201cKindness for Weakness\u201d<\/em><\/strong> in 1998 that solidified his place in the reggae world. He further established himself as a force to reckon with songs like \u2018Strangers in the Night\u2019<\/em><\/strong> and \u2018Consider Me\u2019<\/em><\/strong> that showcase his smooth, raspy bass vocals.<\/p>\n

Over the years, he has released over 40 singles and 11 albums, two of which have been nominated for Grammy awards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
