The 25-year-old up-and-coming artiste steps into the music scene with a vibe she says will transcend romance through the often hard-hitting, fast-paced world of dancehall.

The fashionable entertainer is not worried about the fast-paced, hard-hitting sound in dancehall, reasoning that her musical flow brings a refreshing addition to the musical landscape. She is clear that her objective is to entertain the largest possible audience and not to battle it out for any top accolade.

“I’m not one to compete, honestly. I just like to do my own thing, [and] whoever is with it, is just with it. But I’m not the competitive type…I travel at my own pace,” Bre Royal said.

With a stage name inspired by her best friend, Royal, and her given name, Britney, Bre Royal is carving her own lane. Raised in a musical household – her father a drummer and mother a songwriter – music runs in her blood. But it was a bold move to St Lucia at age 15 that gave her a new perspective.

“I basically grew up in music. We used to be on the choir at church and stuff like dat. So that is what it was like before [I move to St Lucia]. Going out in the public now, it’s not much different right now, but it’s cool. I have people coming up to me and saying, ‘Hey, keep on doing your music’ … ‘we love your music’, and stuff like that,” she stated.

She said Jamaica provides her with a better opportunity to market her talent globally.

“They don’t have the resources to make their music become international,” she explained, referring to the island’s popular Dennery Segment genre. “I think here is best to push your music rather than over there.”

Bre Royal is betting on her unique style to set her apart. Combining dancehall with influences from gospel, reggae, and Afrobeats, she describes her sound as a “romantically smooth blend” – and fans are loving it.

“I write differently because I go off my emotions, my time, what I’m going through, or how I’m feeling [and] I’m thinking. And I don’t think we get a lot of that as a dancehall pop, so I guess that’s a bit different,” said the “Bad and Bold” artiste.

Her latest single, “Overseas Love”, comes from a deeply personal place.

“I wrote that song because of my baby father… So, I got pregnant, and we decided that I’m gonna have the baby in St Lucia. So, when I went overseas, you know, we were missing each other and stuff like that and I decided that, ‘Okay, I’m gonna write how I feel’, and that’s how “Overseas Love” came about,” she shared.

Bre Royal said that her dancehall-pop sound represents a fusion of many genres and showcases her versatility in the entertainment space.

“I used to listen to gospel, reggae, dancehall, Afrobeat, and I just have a love for music overall. So, I just decided that I would combine most of them, with dancehall being the base, and I would just add the rest of the genres on top of it…and give it a little pop,” she laughed.

Bre Royal has been writing love songs since she was 12 – her first, “Bunny”, was recorded when she was just 17.

“I grew up in a loving household. So, from that age, I was like, ‘Yeah, I love love,'” she said.

Now a mother herself, Bre Royal is juggling music and motherhood, but she’s not letting anything slow her down.

“Right now, doors are opening,” she laughed. “I guess a lot of people gravitate to my sound, so I’m not getting a lot of closed doors,” the “Underestimate” singer shared.

Bre Royal plans to release her seven-track debut EP this year, which will be a love ballad to “introduce me entering the music space and to show how versatile I am”.
